Improvements In Tennis Court Surfaces

Growing up most of the tennis courts in our local area were sand or clay courts. The bounce used to be very unpredictable, particularly when the balls bounced near the lines. For some reason the lines used to stick about half an inch above the rest of the court, so the ball would bounce in all sorts of crazy directions.

These days the clay courts have been replaced by synthetic grass tennis courts, thanks to the improvements in technology and the lower cost of the grass.

So the quality of tennis you get to play on these courts has greatly improved with a much truer bounce. Another factor that is greatly improved is the laundry bill. When you walk off a clay court, half the court seems to be stuck to your clothes. Washing your clothes to get all the dust off takes numerous washes and even then there’s still a brown stain to be seen.

As with the improvements in the cricket pitches around the city due to the installation of synthetic grass, tennis courts are also much improved.
